Morgan - Plus Four Price: from £69,995
Last Updated On: 31/05/2025
Seven decades on, in early 2020, the all-new Morgan Plus Four was unveiled, and while the traits that have made it so special remain, the technology which underpins it has been brought firmly into the 21st century. However, in Spring 2024, Morgan announced a facelift for the Plus Four.
When a design is as established as that of the Morgan sports car, evolution must come before revolution. Since its launch seven decades ago, the iconic silhouette has become a defining feature of the car, and that’s not about to change. Even the details, such as its narrower bodywork – a hallmark of Morgan’s core range of cars – and unique wing profiling, have been preserved.
The 2024 Morgan Plus Four is a fascinating blend of vintage aesthetics and modern engineering. Beneath its classic roadster silhouette lies a bonded aluminium platform, double wishbone suspension, and a 2.0-litre turbocharged BMW engine. This four-cylinder powerhouse delivers 259hp and 295lb ft of torque, making the Plus Four surprisingly quick, with a 0-62mph (100km/h) time of 5.2 seconds and a top speed of 149mph (240km/h). In fact, performance of the latest Plus Four is on a par, if not exceeds in the real world that of the discontinued 3.7 litre Morgan V6 Roadster.
Driving experience, practicality and verdict:
The driving experience is engaging, particularly with the optional Dynamic Handling Pack, which includes new springs, adjustable Nitron dampers, and a rear anti-roll bar. This setup significantly improves the car’s composure, making it more predictable and confidence-inspiring through corners. The six-speed manual gearbox offers a tactile, mechanical feel, while the eight-speed automatic provides seamless shifts, though some may find the BMW-sourced gear selector and plastic shift paddles out of place in a hand-built sports car.
While undeniably stylish, the Plus Four remains a niche sports car. It features LED headlights, puddle lights, Bluetooth connectivity, and a Sennheiser stereo. The cabin updates improve comfort, with wider seats and better roof sealing. However, storage space is limited, and it lacks advanced safety features compared to modern vehicles.
The 2024 Morgan Plus Four is a charming, retro-inspired roadster that offers thrilling performance and handcrafted elegance. While it’s not the most practical daily driver, it excels as a weekend cruiser for enthusiasts who appreciate its heritage and unique driving dynamics. If you value style, exclusivity, and a raw driving experience, the Plus Four is a compelling choice.
